|Rouhani congratulates Iranian woman winning Fields Medal||
TEHRAN – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has congratulated Maryam Mirzakhani, the first woman ever to win the Fields Medal, the mathematics’ equivalent to the Nobel Prize.
“Today Iranians can feel proud that the first woman to win the Fields Medal is their countrywoman,” said Rouhnai in his message released on Thursday.
“All Iranians at any corner of the world are this country’s national assets, and on behalf of the Iranian nation, I praise your scientific efforts,” Rouhani said.
Mirzakhani, the professor at Stanford University in California, received the prize at the International Congress of Mathematicians held in Seoul on Wednesday, and became the first female among the 56 winners since the prize was established in 1936.
