|UN official highlights Iran’s role in relief efforts in region||
TEHRAN – The UN humanitarian chief has highlighted the role that Iran can play to assist the United Nations in its relief efforts in the crisis-hit Middle East region.
Speaking to the press in Tehran on Sunday, Valerie Amos, under-secretary General for humanitarian affairs, said Iran had “a very important role to play in helping us gain better access for humanitarian organizations in Syria and elsewhere,” according to the UN News Center.
She also stressed the importance of regional cooperation in dealing with the myriad of “unprecedented” and “unraveling” crises in the Middle East, particularly in Iraq, Syria, and the Gaza Strip.
In reference to her meetings with Iranian officials, she said, “I have had an important opportunity to discuss with government partners ways in which we can strengthen our partnership to improve regional cooperation on humanitarian assistance and also to discuss the major humanitarian crises in the region.”
