|Muslim states should learn a lesson from 1953 coup in Iran: Larijani||
TEHRAN – Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Tuesday that regional Muslim countries, who are trying to revive their identity and establish democracy in their countries, should learn a lesson from the 1953 coup in Iran, known as the 28 Mordad coup d’état.
Last year, the CIA publicly admitted for the first time that it was behind the notorious 1953 coup against Iran’s democratically elected government of Mohammad Mosaddeq, in documents that also showed how the British government tried to block the release of information about its own involvement in his overthrow.
The covert action in 1953 by MI6 and the CIA toppled Mosaddeq in retaliation for his decision to nationalize British oil assets in Iran.
