|Iran denies report linking sanctions relief to cooperation with U.S.||
TEHRAN – The Iranian Foreign Ministry has denied a report that Tehran is ready to help the U.S. counter the militants of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in return for the lifting of the sanctions imposed on the country.
On Thursday, a number of media outlets misquoted Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif as saying that Iran is ready to cooperate with the United States on “Iraq” if all the sanctions imposed on Iran are lifted.
“Such reports are not true, and the report on this issue is baseless,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said.
Zarif had actually said that Iran is ready to cooperate with the U.S. on “Arak” -- meaning the nuclear facility in that Iranian city -- but some news agencies misquoted him as saying “Iraq”.
