|Iran to stage massive drills in southern waters: Navy chief||
TEHRAN - Iranian Navy Commander Habibollah Sayyari has announced that his forces will hold massive drills in Iran's southern waters in November to boost their defensive preparedness.
Rear Admiral announced that the Navy's upcoming exercise will cover vast areas, including southern Iran, east of the Strait of Hormuz, the Sea of Oman and northern Indian Ocean, the Fars news agency reported.
“The latest naval equipment will be used in the exercise. If Fateh (Arabic for Conqueror) Submarine is completed by November 28, it will also be used in the drill,” Sayyari noted.
Iranian officials and commanders have repeatedly stressed that all military exercises and trainings of the Iranian Armed Forces are merely meant to serve deterrent purposes.
Earlier on Sunday, President Hassan Rouhani reiterated that Iran’s military doctrine has only been devised to defend the country and to maintain regional security.
Rouhani also assured Iran’s neighbors that, “If we become powerful in defense industries, it is not only for our own security, but the security of the entire region.”
