Excessive water consumers may face fines: energy minister

TEHRAN -
The energy minister says those citizens who overuse water may be subject to fines.
 
“If customers do not observe the pattern for use of water we may be forced to consider fines for them,” Hamid Chitchian said on Tuesday.
 
He said unfortunately, Iran is facing repeated droughts and the only way is a conservation of water by citizens.
 
He said unfortunately, Iran is facing repeated droughts and the citizens should not overuse water.  
 
The minister also said the government spends a lot for providing water and if citizens reduce their water consumption by 20 percent the costs will be reduced greatly.
 
He added per capita water consumption is 250 liters per day, however in Germany as a developed country it is 159 liters.
