|Iran approves of Russia’s position on nuclear issue: Zarif||
TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has said that Iran is satisfied with Russia’s position on the country’s nuclear program.
He made the remarks during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow on Friday.
Pointing to the historical relations between Iran and Russia, Zarif noted that the two countries have common interests in many areas.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he said that extremism is a threat to the entire region.
He added that Iran and Russia can play an important role in the campaign against extremism at the international level, which would be detrimental to no country and would help the efforts to establish world peace and international security.
‘Nuclear issue has entered sensitive phase’
On Friday, Zarif told an IRNA reporter that the nuclear issue has entered a sensitive phase and Russia has always played a positive role in the talks on Iran’s nuclear program.
Russia, as a member of the 5+1 group and the country that cooperates with Iran in nuclear activities more than any other nation, will also have “active relations” with Iran in the nuclear sphere in the future, the Iranian foreign minister added.
Iran and the 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) were unable to meet a self-imposed July 20 deadline to work out a comprehensive nuclear deal. But the two sides then agreed to extend the talks until November 24.
Zarif also said that Iran expects Russia to make positive efforts to help resolve the issue during the process of the nuclear talks.
The Iranian foreign minister arrived in Moscow on Friday.
