More cooperation between Iran and Russia would be an important tool to break the wall of Western sanctions imposed on the two countries, an Iranian parliamentarian said on Monday.
“Both Iran and Russia have become victims of the West’s hostile sanctions and the cooperation between the two states defuses these policies while it can also pave the way for more development in the fields of economy, energy and security,” Ramazanali Sobahnifar said in an interview with the Majlis news agency ICANA.
The MP, who serves as the head of Iran-Russia parliamentary friendship group, described Tehran and Moscow as reliable friends who have had good cooperation over the past decades in various fields.
He called on the two governments to support the diplomatic proximity between the two states through adopting policies for more economic and trade cooperation.
“Facilitating customs rule could complement the diplomatic efforts made the two sides and will further enhance the strategic partnership between the two states,” he said.
Sobhanifar referred to the recent trip made by Iran’s Mohammad Javad Zarif to Moscow as a sign of the deepening of relations between the two governments.
Since assuming the post of foreign minister, Zarif has met his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov nine times and also made three trips to Russia which heralds how much the two governments are closely working with each other, he stated.
