The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson on Monday congratulated the Iraqi people, religious authorities, government and armed forces for succeeding to put an end to the siege of Amerli after two months of resistance against ISIL terrorists.
Marzieh Afkham said the breaking of the Amerli siege was as a sign of the Iraqi people’s victory against the “Takfiri-Ba’athist” terrorists and also a scandal for those countries that claim to be the standard bearers of human rights.
At least 12,000 Shia Turkmen had been trapped in the town of Amerli located between Baghdad and the northern city of Kirkuk for over two months by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
The forces, mainly composed of Kurdish fighters and armed volunteers, broke the siege on Sunday.
Afkham went on to say that the victory will promote the spirit of resistance in Iraq and will lead to greater victories in resisting against Takfiri-Ba’athist terrorists and their allies.
