|Tehran reserves right of reciprocal actions to U.S. sanctions: VP||
TEHRAN - Tehran reserves the right to adopt reciprocal measures against the U.S. for its recent sanctions against Iran, First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri told a meeting of governors on Monday.
Jahangiri said the new sanctions against Iranian individuals and institutions are against the Joint Plan of Action signed by Iran and the 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany) and runs contrary to the process of the nuclear talks.
However, he said, Tehran is committed to continue the talks with the 5+1 group in order to reach a long-awaited comprehensive deal over Iran’s nuclear energy program.
Jahangiri’s remarks came after the United States, once again, imposed a new wave of sanctions against Iranian companies and individuals on Friday.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said the sanctions contravene the interim nuclear deal signed in Geneva back in November 2013.
According to the U.S. Treasury Department, the sanctions have targeted shipping firms, oil companies, airlines and six Iranian banks.
