TEHRAN – Former vice president Mohammad Reza Aref has said that care should be taken so that the “security atmosphere” that had pervaded universities will not return.

“Certain people, whose interests are at stake, are making every effort to revive the security atmosphere in universities,” Aref said in a speech to a gathering of people in the western province of Lorestan on Sunday.

He called for vigilance against such measures and said efforts should be taken so that the atmosphere of vitality and hope would dominate the universities.

Aref, who was a contestant in 2013 presidential elections but withdrew his candidacy to give a better chance to the moderate camp, added that if the youth had not participated in the elections, the reformist and moderate camps would not have won the elections.
