| Turkmen president meets Iranian interior minister |

TEHRAN – Turkmen President Qurban-Quly Berdi-Muhammedov has called for the expansion of comprehensive ties between Tehran and Ashgabat.
Turkmenistan-Iran relations are strategic, Berdi-Muhammedov told visiting Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa-Mohammad Najjar in Ashgabat on Tuesday.
Najjar said Iran is interested in promoting interactions with neighboring countries, especially Turkmenistan.
He said the two states should utilize the current potential in order to increase cooperation in transportation and energy and to raise the level of trade exchange from $5bn to $10bn.
The two sides also reviewed cooperation on campaign against terrorism, organized crimes, and drugs smugglings.
Najjar said Tehran and Ashkhabad share similar stances on regional peace and stability as well as campaign against global terrorism and organized crimes.
The Iranian minister and the Turkmen president also reviewed the five-party agreement that had been signed between Qatar, Oman, Iran, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan in Ashgabat, and called for a speedy implementation of the deal which is aimed at developing cooperation in transport and transit sectors at regional and trans-regional levels.
Iran, Turkmenistan call for expansion of customs cooperation
In a separate meeting on Tuesday, Najjar and his Turkmen counterpart Isgender Mulikow said efforts should be made to increase cooperation on issues pertaining to joint borders and customs matters.
The two countries should also facilitate the crossing of their nationals, who reside near the joint borders, the transit of cargo vehicles and help boost the border markets, the two ministers stated.
