| Indian foreign secretary says Delhi, Tehran should establish strategic ties |

TEHRAN – Indian Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao says Iran and India have been enjoying historical ties and proposes that the two countries should establish strategic cooperation. Nirupama Rao made the remarks in a meeting with Supreme National Security Council secretary Saeed Jalili in Tehran on Wednesday For his part, the U.S. can no longer impose its ideas on other countries in order to achieve its illegitimate objectives. Jalili said U.S. experience in Iraq and Afghanistan proved this claim. He went on to say that unity among regional countries will not only guarantee their stability but will also leave no pretext for foreigners to stay in the region. Joint campaign against piracy In a separate meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi on Tuesday Rao said that Tehran and New Delhi should make efforts to expand their relations in various spheres. Salehi, for his part, said that the countries should further increase cooperation in economy and trades. In addition, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad Ali Fatollahi, in a separate meeting with Rao on Tuesday, said Iran and India should cooperate on campaign against piracy. The two officials also discussed consular issues as well as regional and international developments.
