| MP: West has set a trap for Saudi Arabia |

 TEHRAN – A member of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy committee has said that Saudi Arabia’s alignment with the Zionist regime is a “new trap” laid by Westerners for Riyadh. MP Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, who was commenting on the recent German-Saudi tank deal, told IRNA on Saturday that some Saudi politicians think their alignment with the Zionist regime will strengthen their position, but it is a miscalculation. “Westerners are trying to find a replacement for the Mubarak-era Egypt through establishing a connection between Israel and Saudi Arabia,” he said. The lawmaker also predicted that the Saudi government’s exorbitant military spending will lead to public discontent and will eventually undermine Saudi Arabia’s status among regional countries. According to Inter Press Service, the German ruling coalition, formed by the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Liberal Democratic Party (FDP), unofficially confirmed on July 6 that it has approved the export of 200 Leopard tanks to Saudi Arabia, for an estimated value of 1.8 billion euros (US$2.6 billion). Anonymous official sources, quoted by numerous German news outlets, said that the delivery of the Leopard tanks to Saudi Arabia was supported by the governments of the United States and Israel.
