TEHRAN – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said that extra-regional enemies are fearful of unity and amity among regional countries, so they are trying to turn “brothers against brothers.” The president made the remarks on Saturday during a meeting with the new ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Iran, Saif Mohammed Obaid al-Zaabi. “There are many vicious thoughts and hands that are fearful of brotherhood and unity among regional governments and nations because regional cooperation will only harm the enemies of the region,” Ahmadinejad said. “The enemies are seeking to provoke discord among religious brothers,” he said, adding, “Regional nations should be vigilant in the face of the enemies’ schemes so that they cannot implement their plans against the region.” He went to say that the United States and its allies should leave the region and let regional countries resolve their issues themselves. On Tehran- Abu Dhabi relations, the president said the expansion of ties between the two countries could foil the enemies’ plots. He added that certain peripheral issues could not damage the two countries’ brotherly and friendly relationship. The UAE ambassador submitted his credentials to President Ahmadinejad and said he would do his utmost to clear up distrust between the two governments. He added that his country is determined to increase its cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
