According to KHORASAN newspaper, MP Mohammad Gholamreza Mesbahi Moqadam rejects reports that Iran’s economic growth rate is upper than 10 percent. “Some claim we have a growth rate of over 10 percent, these statements are inexpert,” Mesbahi Moqadam, a member of the Majlis Economic Committee, stated. He added Iran’s growth rate was the one announced by the Central Bank and the bank announced that the growth rate was 3.51 percent in the Iranian calendar year of 1388 (2009). According to the Fifth Development Plan, Iran’s average economic growth rate should stand at 8 percent, he said, adding, “If this was 7 percent in one year, it should have been 9 percent in the next year.”  He went on to say that there is a huge gap between the growth rate announced in 1388 and the one defined by the Fifth Development Plan. Asked if the government will stop paying cash subsidies, the lawmaker said neither the government nor the Majlis has any plan to cut cash subsidies.

HAMSHAHRI has published an article quoting Transport and Urban Development Minister Ali Nikzad as saying that 45,000 residential units constructed under the Mehr housing project will be delivered to Tehrani citizens in the near future. The Mehr housing project is a network of cooperatives that provides affordable housing for low-income families. These units will be delivered during the government week (August 24 – August 30), Nikzad stated. He also said that the government has provided funding for the provision of water, electricity, gas and telephone lines of these units. He expressed hope that the residential units will be delivered along with local amenities, including schools, sports centers, mosques and so forth. The Mehr housing project is aimed at maintaining the rent control and creating equilibrium in the supply and demand across the country.
