Ahmadinejad made the remarks in a meeting with heads of commissions of Afghan National Assembly in Tehran.

The president said the hegemonic powers are seeking to exploit the wealth and resources of regional countries including Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The enemy does not want Afghanistan to be independent and enjoy freedom, he added.

He went on to say that Tehran and Kabul should stand by each other and change the political equations in the region.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ahmadinejad said Iran and Afghanistan enjoy religious and historical ties, adding the hegemonic powers want to undermine these relations because they cannot dominate the world if they cannot dominate the region.

He also said the two neighbors have great potential for cooperation in various areas including economy, culture and politics.
