| Iranian MP criticizes Turkey’s decision to host NATO radar system |

Boroujerdi, who is the chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, made the remarks in a meeting with Turkish Ambassador to Iran Umit Yardim on Tuesday. Tehran and Ankara should not allow their enemies to cause strains in their friendly relations, Boroujerdi said. Commenting on historical, religious, and cultural affinities between the two countries, Boroujerdi said that the affinities could serve as a stepping stone toward the consolidation of ties in all spheres, particularly parliamentary relationship. He emphasized the necessity to maintain fraternal relations between the two countries and said that the enemies should not be allowed to harm the close relationship. He also described Iran and Turkey as two important Muslim countries in the region and said that promoting ties with neighboring countries is one of the fundamental principles of the Islamic Republic’s foreign policy. During the meeting, Yardim called Tehran-Ankara relations close and said that Turkish officials are also keen to enhance bilateral ties, particularly parliamentary ties, and cooperation in all spheres. He also emphasized the importance of mutual trust between the two countries’ officials and said that meetings and consultations between them can prepare the ground for increasing understanding and mutual trust and prevent ill-wishers from exploiting the situation.
