| Russia calls for enhanced strategic ties with Iran |

TEHRAN – The visiting deputy secretary of Russia’s Security Council has called for the expansion of strategic relations with the Islamic Republic.
Yevgeny Lukyanov made the remarks during a meeting with the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), Saeed Jalili, in Tehran on Tuesday.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Russian official criticized the West for adopting unilateral approaches toward international issues.
He also said that Russia has a positive attitude toward Iran’s scientific and technological advancements.
The SNSC secretary highlighted the effective role of cooperation between Iran and Russia in bringing about transition from a unipolar world to a multipolar world and said the two countries’ bilateral relationship, which is based on common interests, is of high importance.
Jalili also congratulated the Russian official on the smooth running of the presidential election in Russia and the resounding victory of Vladimir Putin.
-------Iran, Russia can help Syria to implement political reforms
During a separate meeting with Lukyanov on Monday, Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said that Iran believes that cooperation between a powerful Russia and an independent Iran could play an effective role in changing the trend of international and regional developments in favor of the interests of the two countries.
He also said that Iran, Russia, and other independent countries could help the Syrian government and people through the current situation and in the process of implementing political and economic reforms.
Lukyanov highlighted the importance of negotiations and consultations between the two countries’ officials on major regional and international issues.
He also said that Russia is ready to increase cooperation with Iran on the world stage.
