‘Iran-India cooperation will improve regional security’

c_330_235_16777215_0_http___tehrantimes.com_images_stories_edim_02_am11.jpgTEHRAN – The secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has said that cooperation between Tehran and New Delhi will positively affect the security and stability of the region. 
 
SNSC Secretary Saeed Jalili made the remarks during a meeting with India’s Deputy National Security Advisor Latha Reddy in Tehran on Wednesday. 
 
Jalili highlighted the role of cooperation between the two countries in strategic areas of defense and maritime security in improving the security and stability of the region and called for increased bilateral cooperation to deal with common threats such as terrorism, piracy, and drug trafficking. 
 
He also pointed to the role of the Islamic Republic in maintaining the security of energy supplies and said that Tehran welcomes India’s will to expand relations with Iran. 
 
Reddy also said that India attaches high importance to its strategic ties with Iran, adding that her country is keen to cement its relations with the Islamic Republic, particularly in the area of energy.
