Ambassador Mohammad Khazaee made the remarks during a meeting of the UN Security Council in New York on Thursday in response to claims by Israeli officials that Iran had been behind the bomb attack on a bus carrying Israeli tourists at a Bulgarian airport on July 18 that killed seven and wounded dozens.

Khazaee stated that such attacks can only be plotted by the Zionist regime that has carried out numerous terrorist actions against its own people and the Jews with the aim of achieving its political purposes.

He added that the Islamic Republic of Iran has been a victim of such acts of terrorism and condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

The Iranian ambassador also dismissed Israeli allegations that Iran is seeking to produce nuclear weapons and said that if the Security Council does not take action to oppose the policies of the Zionist regime that possesses hundreds of nuclear warheads, lasting peace and stability in the Middle East will remain a distant dream.

Israel has not signed the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and it is widely believed to have nuclear weapons but has neither confirmed nor denied it.

But Iran, as a signatory to the NPT, is developing nuclear program for peaceful purposes.
