| Mild quakes jolt three areas in Iran |

TEHRAN – A quake measuring 2.5 on the Richter scale hit Zahan and Hajiabad cities in the northeastern Iranian province of South Khorasan at 5:30 p.m. local time at a depth of 12 kilometers.
The quake caused no damage or casualties.
In addition, a 2.4 magnitude quake struck the city of Nosratabad in the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan and Baluchestan at about 5:00 p.m. local time. No damage or casualties were reported.
Many areas in Iran are located on seismic fault lines and Iran is frequently hit by powerful and deadly earthquakes.
Two strong earthquakes hit the cities of Ahar and Varzaqan in East Azarbaijan Province on August 11, killing over 300 people and injuring more than 2000.
A 6.6 magnitude quake flattened the southeastern city of Bam in 2003, killing about 26,000 people.
