TEHRAN - Tehran’s deputy police chief for operations reported an average of 36,600 phone calls daily to the emergency call operators across the metropolis of Tehran.
The phone number, 110, (dialed directly from any landline or cell phone) is the public's first line of contact to public safety authorities in an emergency case in Iran.
Colonel Abbas Daneshjoo, in an interview with the Merh News Agency published on Tuesday, said that in the first five months of the year (which in the current Iranian calendar begins on March 21) Tehran citizens contacted 110 over 5 million times that compared to the last year it shows a 13 percent spike.
The colonel expressed delight over a decline in crimes by 9 %, family disputes by 24%, and goods smuggling by 24% compared to the last spring, showing call to police have prevented less unfortunate incidents.
The colonel also said that the police are ready to respond to any emergency call, related to traffic or citizens’ security, in the least amount of time.
