Since there is a widespread deafness in Kerman due to close family marriages, the city was considered as the next location for this purpose, said Dr. Maryam Amedizadeh, the head of the center.

Dr. Amedizadeh announced a successful operation on a 2.5 year-old-boy who congenitally had hearing problem, the Persian service of the Mehr News Agency reported on Sunday.

For the best result, children with this type of genetic hearing problem should undergo surgery by the age of 3, said Dr. Amedizadeh.

She expressed her gratitude for all the support that the center has received from benefactors and officials and said the only way for the center to remain active is a helping hand and donation from generous people.

An auditory prosthesis is a small electronic device used in cochlear implants that replaces the deaf patient’s hearing system or cochlea by stimulating it to cause hearing.
