The 21-year-old Iranian defeated Peng Tang 4-3 (11-8, 11-5, 7-11, 11-9, 8-11, 5-11, 12-10) in the ExCel venue.

Alamiyan had defeated Australian Justin Han (4-0) on Saturday. The Iranian will play Timo Boll from Germany on Monday.

“I am so glad since it’s the first time an Iranian table tennis player has won at the Games. I have to concentrate on the match against my German rival. I want to make history,” Alamiyan said.
