|Iran into FIBA Asia Cup quarterfinals||
Iran basketball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the fourth FIBA Asia Cup basketball tournament held in Japan.
On Tuesday, Iran beat host Japan 71-65 and topped the Group B by eight points. Iran has already defeated India, Qatar and Chinese Taipei in the competition.
Iran will play Uzbekistan on Thursday. The winner of the match will face the winner of the Chinese Taipei – Philippines match.
Iran’s Samad Nikkhah Bahrami was on top of the score sheet with 16 points. Ryota Sakurai was Japan’s top scorer with 14 points.
The first team will book a berth in the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship which will be held in Manila, the Philippines.
The FIBA Asia Cup was played since 2004, then 2008 and 2010. Qatar was champion in 2004 in Taipei, Jordan won the title in 2008 in Kuwait, while Lebanon won the crown in Beirut in 2010.
