In the pre-match news conference held in Tehran’s Academy Hotel on Monday, Choi Kang-hee said, “We want to defeat Iran, that’s why we are here. This is an important mach and we travel to Iran one week earlier to have a longer time to adjust to Tehran’s high altitude.”
“I believe that in the first 20 minutes of the match, the winner will be determined. It would be a difficult match against Iranian team in their home with a crowd of 100,000 supporters,” the coach added.
In terms of head-to-head matches, two teams are tied at 9-7-9. South Korea has yet to win an away game in Iran, having racked up two draws and two losses there so far.
“We are going to end victory drought in their home soil. South Korea has so many experienced players and we are well prepared to defeat Iran,” the 53-year-old said.
Iran is second in Group A, three points under South Korea, who has seven points.
