Iran basketball team clinches WABA title

c_330_235_16777215_0___images_stories_edim_13-2(145).jpgTEHRAN – Iran claimed the title of the 2013 West Asian Basketball Association (WABA) Championship on Saturday. 
 
The Persians rolled past Lebanon 100-86 in Tehran’s Azadi Basketball Hall.
 
The Iranian team opened the championship with a 99-55 win over Jordan on February 7 and then defeated Iraq 94-61 in the following day.
 
Lebanon and Jordan, as the second and third teams, qualified for the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship. Iran had already booked a place in the competition. 
 
The competition brought four teams, namely Iran, Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq together. 
 
Syria had withdrawn from the tournament.  
 
The 2013 FIBA Asia Championship will be held from August 1 to August 11 in Manila, Philippines. 
 
The competition serves as the qualifying tournament for the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain.
