.jpg) DOHA – Iran’s Esteghlal was held to a 3-3 draw by Al Rayyan of Qatar in Wednesday’s AFC Champions League Group D opener.
Jlloyd Samuel gave the visiting team a lead in the 27th minute but Rodrigo Tabata equalized the match from the penalty spot 10 minutes later. Arash Borhani scored for Esteghlal just before the break.
Musa Haroon found the back of the net for Al Rayyan in the 59th minute. With four minutes remaining Javad Nekounam put Esteghlal back in front from the penalty spot but one minute later Nilmar equalized the match.
Al Ain of the United Arab Emirates defeated 10-man Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia 2-1 in the group.
In Group C, Iran’s Sepahan defeated Al Nasr of the UAE 3-0 in Isfahan.
Xhevahir Sukaj netted twice in the 22nd and 81st minutes and Omid Ebrahimi extended Sepahan’s lead in the 86th minute.
