TEHRAN – Iran volleyball coach Julio Velasco said on Monday that the Asian teams are concentrating to defeat Iran in the 2013 Asian Men's Volleyball Championship.
Iran has been drawn in Pool C along with Kuwait and Kazakhstan in the competitions which will be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from September 28 to October 6.
“After our performance in the 2013 World League the Asian teams are going to defeat us,” Velasco said on Monday.
“Our confidence is high at the moment. Asian teams such as Australia, Japan and south Korea are very strong but the people think to defeat them is easier than defeating Cuba and Italy,” he added.
“We will play several warm up games against Russia in the country. I think it’s so important that the world’s best team is going to play with your team. It’s a good time for us to gain experience in these friendlies,” Velasco said.
Debutant Iran finished in ninth place in the FIVB 2013 World League in July while Russia won the title for the third time.
