Arsalan Kazemi joined Petrochimi Bandar Imam Basketball team on Wednesday on a one-year contract.
The 76ers took Arsalan Kazemi in the second round of the NBA Draft in late June. The 76ers General Manager Sam Hinkie said shortly after that Kazemi would get a chance to work on his game somewhere else for a year.
“We would have the opportunity to reassess where he is later," Hinkie said. "I think that's an attractive opportunity for him."
Kazemi averaged 9.4 points and 10 rebounds per game at Oregon last year after playing his first three years at Rice. He averaged 4.6 points and 4.6 rebounds in just over 20 minutes per game for the 76ers in the Orlando Summer League.
“I’d rather play in Petrochimi than sit on the bench at NBA. I think it’s a good chance for me to play in motherland,” the Iranian Students News Agency quoted Kazemi as saying.
“I could join a European team but I want to play regularly. I think I’ve made the best decision to join Petrochimi,” he added.
