|Carlos Queiroz wary of Thailand in Asian Cup qualifier||
TEHRAN – Iran coach Carlos Queiroz insists that his side will take nothing for granted when they face Thailand in the Asian Cup qualifier on Tuesday.
Group B leader Iran will play Thailand in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium. The Iranian team was held to a 1-1 draw against Kuwait in its opening match in Kuwait and pummeled Lebanon 5-0 at the Azadi Stadium.
“Thailand has not yet defeated Iran but we will take nothing for granted when we face them. They have defeated China and Bahrain and it means we have a difficult job against the team. Our players will have to concentrate on the match,” Queiroz said at the pre-match news conference.
“We want the Iranian spectators to come to stadium in match against Thailand to support us. The Thailand coach (Surachai Jaturapattarapong) has said they’ve come here to get one point and they will do their best to stop us in their away game. We respect our opponent,” the Portuguese added.
Asked whether Eintracht Braunschweig goalkeeper Daniel Davari and San Jose Earthquakes defender Steven Beitashour could make their debut for Iran football team against Thailand.
“I like to do my talking on the field. At the moment we are just thinking about the match against Thailand,” Queiroz said.
Iran and Kuwait each have four points and Lebanon three. Thailand has any point in Group B.
The top two teams of each of the five groups, plus the only best third-placed side among all groups, advance to the final.
