The jersey of AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini has been sold in a charity auction for 3 billion rials ($101,763) on Tuesday.
The auction was held at the Eivan-e Shams Hall in Tehran.
All the funds raised from the charity auction will be used to help Iranian children with cancer and to help gain the release of prisoners.
Former Persepolis striker Payan Rafat swapped jerseys with Milan star Paolo Maldini at the end of a charity match held in late November at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.
“I am very happy about the charity auction. At the end of the match, many people told me to sell the jersey for up to 30 million tomans (over $10,000), but I decided to sell it in a charity auction,” Rafat told the official site of Persepolis FC.
AC Milan, the world's most successful soccer club in terms of trophies won, sent a team stacked full of its former stars to play a charity match against retired Persepolis FC players on November 28.
In the match, Milan Glorie defeated Persepolis Glorie 3-1.
