|Malavan downs Esteghlal in IPL||
Esteghlal missed the chance to go top of the Iran Professional League (IPL) table when they lost to Malavan on Wednesday.
The Tehran giant was crushed 4-2 in its away game against plucky Malavan.
Siamak Koroushi opened the empty net in the 10th minute after Esteghlal keeper Mehdi Rahmati failed to save a remarkable free kick.
Four minutes later, Ahmad Ahi opened Esteghlal goal with a header.
Malvan was the dominant team and put the visiting team under pressure.
Just three minutes into the second half, Shahin Saghebi scored Malavan’s third goal. He was also selected as the man of the match after the final whistle.
Esteghlal striker Mohammad Ghazi pulled one back with a shot from the penalty area in the 52nd minute. One minute later, unmarked Mehdi Daghagheleh managed to score to make it 4-1.
Hanif Omranzadeh scored a consolation goal for Esteghlal in the dying moments of the match.
Malavan might have won even more handsomely, however, its strikers missed their chances.
“Give credit to my players because they did well against Esteghlal. I am satisfied with them. We did our best and defeated them,” Dragan Skocic said in the post match news conference.
With three weeks remaining, Foolad stands at top of the table with 51 points, followed by Esteghlal (50) and Naft (48).
