Iran wins Asian Youth Weightlifting Championships

c_330_235_16777215_0___images_stories_edim_13-1(425).jpgIran won the title of the 16th Asian Youth Weightlifting Championship in Bangsaen, Thailand on Saturday. 
 
The Iranian team finished in first place with 578 points, followed by China (547) and host Thailand (493) respectively. 
 
Kianoush Bagheri claimed a gold medal in the 69kg weight category on Thursday. The Iranian lifted 121kg in the snatch and 153kg in the clean and jerk. Bagheri won the gold medal with a total lift of 274kg.
 
Weightlifters from Kazakhstan and Thailand seized silver and bronze medals with total lifts of 271kg respectively. 
 
Iran’s Ramin Valipour won the silver medal in the 77kg weight category with efforts of 136kg (snatch), 155kg (clean and jerk) and 291kg (total lift).
 
Indian Ragala Venkat Rahul finished in first place in the category. The Indian lifter lifted 133kg in the snatch, 163kg in the clean and jerk and 296kg in total. 
 
Iran’s Reza Beiralvand seized the gold medal in the 85kg weight category on Friday. He bagged the gold with efforts of 142kg (snatch), 171kg (clean and jerk) and 313kg (total lift).
 
Chinese lifter came second with a total of 305kg in the category and South Korean representative win the bronze medal with 299kg.
 
In the 94kg weight category, Mostafa Khalili of Iran hoisted 127kg in the snatch and 155kg in the clean and jerk. He bagged a silver medal with a total of 282kg. 
 
The South Korean weightlifter won the gold with 289kg in total. The bronze medal went to Indian athlete with 280kg.
 
In +94kg, Iran’s Mehrshad Mahmoudi and Saeid Rezazadeh won the silver and bronze medals respectively. 
 
Mahmoudi won the silver with efforts of 142kg (snatch), 183kg (clean and jerk) and 325kg (total lift). Rezazadeh bagged a bronze with 142kg in the snatch, 183kg in the clean and jerk and 323kg in total. 
 
A weightlifter from Kazakhstan won the gold medal with a total of 350kg. 
 
“I am satisfied with my boys. We will get the better results if we train more. For the competitions, we had no enough time. I dedicate the title to all people, who helped us to take part in the tournament,” Iran coach Hossein Tavakkoli said. 
 
The Championships is the continental qualification event for the 2nd Youth Olympic Games, which will be held from August 16 to 28 in Nanjing, China.
