|Iran participating at 2014 FIBA Asia Cup||
TEHRAN – The Iranian basketball team will leave for China on Monday to participate at the 2014 FIBA Asia Cup.
The 5th edition of the FIBA Asia Cup will be held in Wuhan, Hubei, China from July 11–19.
The winner of this tournament will automatically qualify for the FIBA Asia Championship in 2015.
Iran has been drawn in Pool A along with host China, India, Indonesia and Japan.
Pool B consists of Chinese Taipei, Jordan, the Philippines and Singapore.
The Iranian basketball team will open its campaign against Japan on July 11.
“We have not some of our key players in the competitions but it’s a good opportunity to field the new players to earn experience,” Iran coach Memi Becirovic told Mehr news agency.
“We are going to hold a camp in Poland, Slovenia, and Estonia after the competitions ahead of the FIBA Basketball World Cup,” he added.
The 17th edition of the FIBA Basketball World Cup will be held in Spain from August 30 to September 14.
Iran has been drawn with host Spain, Serbia, France, Brazil and Egypt in Pool A.
