|Iran aims third gold in Asian Cup Volleyball Championship||
The Iranian volleyball team is going a win a gold medal in the 4th AVC Cup for Men, which will be held in Almaty of Kazakhstan from August 18-24.
The competitions serve also as Qualification Tournament for 2015 World League.
The Iranian team, two-time champion in the first two editions, has been grouped defending champion China, Australia and Thailand.
Iran has been scheduled to play Thailand on Monday in its opening match.
“We are hear with our second or third team because our first team is in the U.S. for the preparatory matches,” Iran coach Peyman Akbari told IRNA.
Asked him whether the current team will participate in the 2014 Asian Games, Akbari said, “We will take part in the Asian Games with our main team after the World Championships in Poland.”
Pool A consists of host Kazakhstan, South Korea, India and Japan.
In the last three editions, Iran has won two titles in the 2008 and 2010 in Thailand and Iran respectively, under tutelage of Hossein Madani, who died of cancer on August 1.
The fourth AVC Cup for Women will also be held in Nanchang of China from September 6-12, which is also an Qualification Tournament for 2015 World Grand Prix.
The eight teams are grouped into two pools, with host China playing against Vietnam, Korea and Iran in Pool A. Pool B include Thailand, Kazakhstan, Japan and Chinese Taipei.
