|Iran defeats Australia in Asian Men's Cup Volleyball Championship||
Iran volleyball team beat Australia 3-1 (25–13, 28–30, 25–23, 25–20) in the in the 4th AVC Cup for Men on Wednesday.
Iran opened the competitions with a difficult match against Thailand, where it beat the team 3-2 (23–25,25–16, 20–25, 25–19, 18–16).
Iran also swept title-holder China in straight sets (25-21, 25-14, 25-15) on Tuesday.
Peyman Akbari’s team advanced to the quarter-final round as the Pool B first team and will face either Japan or Kazakhstan in the stage on Friday.
Pool A also consists of host Kazakhstan, South Korea, India and Japan.
The competition, which serves also as Qualification Tournament for 2015 World League, will run until August 24 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
In the last three editions, Iran has won two titles in the 2008 and 2010 in Thailand and Iran respectively, under tutelage of Hossein Madani, who died of cancer on August 1.
