|Iran’s Kimia Alizadeh wins gold in Youth Olympic Games||
Iran’s Kimia Alizadeh Zenoorin claimed the gold medal at the 2nd Summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China on Wednesday.
The 16-year-old athlete won Iran’s third gold medal in the prestigious competitions.
Ramin Safaviyeh in Judo and Mehdi Eshaghi in taekwondo have already won the gold medals in the competitions.
Alizadeh earned a gold medal in the women’s -63 kg taekwondo event at the Int. Expo Centre Hall D in Nanjing.
Alizadeh, who carried Iran’s flag in the opening ceremony, defeated Cameroonian Sokeng Ngassa 23-0 in round of 16.
She defeated Belgian Amber Pannemans 15-2 in quarterfinals and booked a berth in the final by defeating Colombian Yopasa Gomez 12-2.
In the final match, Alizadeh defeated Russian Yulia Turutina 10-7 and claimed a gold medal.
Iran is taking part in the Youth Olympics Games with 16 athletes in swimming, judo, shooting, equestrian, athletic, taekwondo, beach volleyball, Greco-Roman and weightlifting.
The Summer Youth Olympic Games kicked off in Nanjing on August 17.
The competitions have brought over 3700 young sportsmen from 204 countries together.
The Youth Olympic Games are includes in 31 sports. The games will end on August 28.
