TEHRAN -- Iran’s Dabiri Tabriz defeated Shenzhen Nanling of China in the penalty shootout in the bronze medal match of the AFC Futsal Club Championship on Saturday.
In the match held at the Shuangliu Sports Centre in Chengdu, China, the game ended 5-5 in regular time.
In the penalty shootout, the Iranian outfit beat its Chinese opponent 7-6 and finished in third place.
“I believe that today we found a new power in futsal in Asia in the form of China and Shenzhen,” Tabriz coach Hossein Shams told the-afc.com .
“Of course, I was worried in the penalty shootout because there’s not a lot a head coach can do, but Alireza Samimi is one of the best goalkeepers in Asia – maybe the best overall – and with those saves he showed Asia his quality,” he added.
In the final match, Japan’s Nagoya Oceans defeated title-holder Chonburi Bluewave of Thailand 5-4 and became the first ever two-time winner of the AFC Futsal Club Championship.
