After a very tight and exciting match Iran beat USA 3-2. Iran's Amir Ghafour was on hand to provide his comments.

How do you feel about the result?

Amir Ghafour: "I feel great, USA won the World League this year and we expected they would be a tough opponent. Today we took risks with the service, which was very powerful, and it paid off."

What were the main problems for your team in the third and fourth sets?

Amir Ghafour: "We won the first and second sets because USA had problems receiving our serves. After that, they made some changes, replaced some players and they played much better. We started having problems with reception, but motivation in our team was very high, so we overcame the problems and won the whole match."

Thinking about the next games, do you see any room for improvement for your team? What will be the most critical game element you think you’ll need to work on now?

Amir Ghafour: "We definitely must improve our reception, because it didn’t work well in the third and fourth sets. I’m not concerned about serving - it was very effective today. Also our setter is one of the best in the world."

Pool D is also called the “Pool of death”. Is there any specific team that you consider still dangerous for Iran?

Amir Ghafour: "We were concerned mostly about the US team. The remaining teams are also good, however, I think that the biggest risk when playing with our next opponents is to lose our concentration and start making mistakes. I think we are prepared to win Pool D."

The team that is going to win the World Championship will play 13 matches. What do you think is most critical in preparation for such a long competition?

Amir Ghafour: "We have come here with 14 great players in the team, who can be replaced on the court. All of them are strong pillars of the team, and can contribute to our further success."
