The 56-year-old Croat is a candidate to take the vacant job. Former Sepahan coach is expected to replace Hamid Estili in the Iranian giant team within next two days.

“We have negotiated with Bonacic but have not yet reached an agreement with him,” Persepolis general manager Mohammad Ruyanian said.

Bonacic had been highly successful with Sepahan after he won Iran’s Hazfi Cup in 2006 and 2007. Also in 2007 he managed Sepahan to the AFC Champions League final but lost to Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds 3-1 on aggregate.

Former Bayer Leverkusen coach Klaus Toppmoller and Swede Sven-Goran Eriksson are also among the candidates.

Hamid Estili stepped down as the coach of Persepolis after Esteghlal knocked the team out of Iran’s Hazfi Cup on Friday.

Estili was appointed as Persepolis coach at the beginning of the season but was forced to quit after poor results in the Iranian Professional League and the Hazfi Cup.
