.jpg) TEHRAN - Ali Mazaheri has been named as Iran’s flag-bearer at next month's Olympic opening ceremony in London.
The Iranian Olympic Committee has appointed the heavyweight boxer as the flag-bearer at the games on Monday.
“It’s a great honor to walk ahead of your country’s athletes in the Olympics. I will do my best in the competitions to win a medal,” the 30-year-old said.
Ali Mazaheri claimed the gold medal in the 2006 Asian Games in Doha.
The heavyweight boxer qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, where he lost his debut to Russia's Rakhim Chakhkeiv.
The 2012 Olympic Games are scheduled to take place in London from 27 July to 12 August 2012.
