| Moscow says West reacted hysterically to Russian veto |

 Russia has described as ‘hysterical’ the Western states’ reaction to Moscow and Beijing’s vetoing of a UN resolution against Syria.
“Some comments from the West on the UN Security Council (UNSC) vote, I would say, are indecent and bordering on hysteria,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters in Moscow on Monday.
“Such hysterical comments are aimed at suppressing what is actually happening,” the senior Russian diplomat said.
On Saturday, Russia and China vetoed a UN resolution against Syria which called for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to resign and hand over power to opposition leaders.
Russian envoy to the UN Vitaly Churkin rejected the anti-Syria resolution endorsed by the Arab League, saying the “international community” should not meddle in Syria's domestic conflict and sanctions could risk heating up the conflict.
“The Council cannot dictate parameters for an internal political settlement; it has no authority for it,” he added.
Russia and China’s vetoing of the anti-Syria resolution provoked criticism from the West, particularly the U.S., who said the UNSC was held “hostage by a couple of members.”
The United States, Britain, France and Germany have claimed that the push for a resolution on Syria is not over.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011. Hundreds of people, including Syrian security forces, have been killed in the turmoil.
The West and the Syrian opposition accuse the government of killing the protesters, but Damascus says “outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups” are responsible for the unrest, which it says is being orchestrated from abroad.
