President Underlines Women's Legal Status in Civil Society

TEHRAN President Seyed Mohammad Khatami here Tuesday emphasized women's determining role in the Islamic civil society and outlined their legal status and personality in different arena. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 3rd Women Consultative-Educational Workshop on Participation and Planning for Sustainable Development, the president underlined the noble personality of Hazrat Zeinab (SA) the grand daughter of the Holy Prophet of Elaborating on the important political activities carried out in the civil society by women, the president stated that such great tasks are indebted to vigilant voluntary presence of every individual in the society.
The president further referred to certain limitations facing women particularly in rural areas, saying that such limitations prevent women to achieve appropriate educational and scientific growth. He emphasized that by promoting the public culture, it will be possible to pave the way for women to become familiar with their own rights. Upgrading women's managerial and planning abilities, productivity and optimal utilization of existing resources and facilities in a bid to enhance women's participation in policy-making, adoption of strategies to campaign against poverty and underdevelop Speaking at the workshop, president advisor in women affairs Mrs. Zahra Shojai, delineating the history for women organizations in Iran after the culmination of the Islamic Revolution 1979.
She referred to women's problems during the ousted Pahlavi regime and saying with the establishment of apparent non-governmental women's organizations, Reza Khan tried to execute certain policies to eradicate Islam, while during the rein of Mohammad Reza Shojai, further, stated that with the culmination of the Islamic Revolution, despite the great role women played in the victory of Islamic Revolution, the first women organization was formed 10 years after the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1988.
T She added that after the May election and the presidency of Seyed Mohammad Khatami, the Center for Women's Participation Affairs has undertaken the obligation of coordination, support, laying out guidance and consolidation of the women affairs' offices
