Youth NGOs Call For Establishing National Youth Parliament
The declaration which was released after "the first meeting of the youth NGOs" called for measures to prepare grounds for the active participation of the youth in social and policy-making affairs of the country.
The meeting was inaugurated Tuesday in the presence of President Mohammad Khatami, IRNA reported.
Addressing the gathering, the President stressed the need for outlining a comprehensive plan on ways to help the youth get involved in productive activities.
Youth programs and plans, he said, should consider active participation of youth in the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in matters pertaining to leisure and social activities.
The declaration further said the youth could play a key part in the social events and hence more attention should be given to their formations and NGOs.
The girls-linked NGOs have not found means to develop because of a range of special reasons and then they should have access to facilities to express their demands and run their formations to defend their rights.
Moral and financial support should be given by the government to the youth NGOs which would handle various affairs related to the young people such as employment, marriage, housing and social affairs.
On Thursday, Majlis Speaker Mahdi Karrubi called on the youth non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to participate in political activities but warned them against involvement in political factionalism.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the first National Youth NGOs Congress, he added that NGOs can participate in political affairs provided that they develop their own independent political insight rather than acting on behalf of political factions.
Addressing a gathering of representatives of thousands of youth NGOs, he reiterated that if NGOs act for political groups, they will lose their independence and identity.
Karrubi also called on the government to assist the national youth organizations and draw up a draft on the real status of NGOs and submit it to Majlis.
He said that the figures on the budget and other facilities allocated by the government and Majlis to create jobs for the youth show a remarkable boost over that of earlier terms, though they are still insufficient.
Karrubi called for special attention by the Islamic Revolution, the government and the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to the youth.
