Iraqi Constitution Should Be Based on Pure Islam: SAIRI Representative
“In an effort to continue their occupation of the country, the invaders have resorted to political dirty tricks such as oppressing the people and creating divisions among the Iraqi nation,” Dr. Hamid Najdi, the SAIRI representative in London told the Mehr News Agency.
The professor of the Islamic Sciences University in London added that when the occupiers saw that millions of Iraqi people welcomed Ayatollah Mohammed Baqer al-Hakim and many more came to Karbala to see him, they were frightened that these developments would lead to ardent demands for an Islamic constitution, so they employed the old policy of divide and rule and encouraged religious, sectarian, and racial clashes in the country.
He called U.S. forces in Iraq frightened cowards and pointed out the irony of the fact that they are attempting to establish security for the Iraqi nation although they are unable to provide security for themselves.
On the very important issue of drafting a new Iraqi constitution, Najdi said that the constitution of a country is the sum of that nation’s will and aspirations, and since 95 percent of the Iraqi people are Muslim and the Shia are the majority, the constitution should be in harmony with their Islamic identity.
“If the U.S. is really in favor of establishing democracy in Iraq, it should bear in mind that democracy means the rule of the majority, and the majority of the Iraqi population are Shia Muslims, so the constitution should reflect their will and identity, which is a pure Mohammadi Islamic constitution,” he said in conclusion.
