TEHRAN (Mehr News Agency) — Hasan Ghafouri-Fard, the chairman of the House of Parties, said here Friday that Interior Minister Abdulvahed Mousavi Lari officially announced that the Guardian Council would vet candidates for the upcoming election during a joint session between the House of Parties, the Guardian Council, and the Interior Ministry.

Ghafouri-Fard told the Mehr News Agency that this means that the Guardian Council can vet candidates approved during previous stages of the qualification process, but can only disqualify candidates according to the law and with acceptable explanations.

He went on to say that holding such joint sessions allows participants to respond to criticism of their opponents.

Ghafouri-Fard stressed that all parties are dutybound to encourage high voter turnout and ensure that a fair election is held, rather than increasing tension, which is not beneficial.

Parties call on electoral officials to pave the way for high voter turnout and to promote confidence among the people to ensure them that the election will be fair, he said.

He added that the country is currently facing a new wave of threats by the global arrogance and should first try to solve its internal problems through understanding prevailing conditions.
