MP Calls Blair’s Remarks Illogical
“We have to wait and see what Britain and the United States will do about the costs that the occupation of Iraq incurs,” he said.
Torkashvand told the Mehr News Agency that the occupation will not cost less than the attack against Iraq, adding that the U.S. and Britain will face additional costs.
He mentioned the meeting held in Tehran between European and Iranian officials, stressing that Iran made a wise decision to sign the additional protocol to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
The MP added that neither the occupation of Iraq nor the war in Afghanistan had the least influence on Iran’s decision to sign the protocol.
Torkashvand said that the international community has realized that colonialist countries like the U.S. and Britain only respect internationally recognized rights as long as their interests are not threatened.
He added that Iran’s decision to sign the additional protocol was based on the country’s interests.
“This issue is not in the least connected to regional events such as the attack on Iraq by Britain and the U.S.,” Torkashvand said.
He also called Blair’s recent remarks about Iran illogical.
Torkashvand advised Britain to give stop issuing contradictory statements about Iran and to adopt a transparent policy toward the country.
Blair told BBC radio on Thursday that the global commitment to counter weapons of mass destruction shown in the Iraq war had helped convince Iran to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
