Academic Dariush Zahedi Freed on Bail
Mohammad Shadabi, a spokesman for Tehran Prosecutor’s Office, told the Associated Press late Sunday that Zahedi had been released after his relatives posted a bail of two billion rials ($250,000), but he refused to verify comments that he is also free to leave the country.
Shadabi also gave no further details.
Tehran Prosecutor’s Office also has announced that the case of academic Dariush Zahedi is still open, stressing that he will have to report to the court for further proceedings.
"Zahedi must appear at the court on a date that the judge handling his case has set or he will lose the bail," the official said.
The academic, who lectures at California University, was arrested in July on charges of espionage and provoking unrest.
Yet, some sources have said that there is no restriction for Zahedi to leave Iran.
